Would you like to learn how to build websites, but don’t know where to start? Are you excited about programming but are not sure how to begin your journey?
If you are a women or non-binary person and want to learn how to program websites, we have good news for you: we are holding a one-day workshop for beginners on 29 April 2017 in Vienna!
We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program, so if you know English or German – the event's official language is English (all materials are in English as well), though we'll also offer German coaching – and can bring a laptop, do apply!
You will work through the tutorial in a small group of ~3 attendees and one coach, at your own pace.
Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?
No! Django Girls workshops are for beginners. You can still apply if you have some technical knowledge already, i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are (or similar).
I don't live in Austria, can I apply?
Of course! The workshop's main language and materials are (in) English – though we'll offer coaching in German as well – so if you have no trouble with understanding spoken and written English for the most part, you should apply.
Should I bring my own laptop?
Yes. We will likely not be able to provide hardware for you to use, so we expect you to bring a laptop with you. It is also important for us that you can take home all the code you write and create during the workshop.
Do I need to have anything installed on my laptop?
We will try to have our coaches help you install everything you need remotely, before the event. You could also try to install Django yourself, though we wouldn't expect you to do this on your own.
Is food provided?
Yes. Thanks to our amazing sponsors, lunch and snacks will be provided during the workshop.
Why are you doing this?
Programming is a fun and creative activity and we want to make sure everyone interested in technology has a chance to participate! One week after the workshop, you'll even get to attend your first Python conference if you want, as PyDays Vienna is happening then – for free! :) (We're helping organise that, too.)
We found some wonderful coaches for our event. If you want to join us as a coch for future Django Girls workshops, contact us!
We couldn't be here without the support from amazing people and organisations who have donated resources – money, knowledge and time – to help us make this a reality. If you want to contribute and support our goal, please get in touch: [email protected]
