Django Girls

If you are a woman and want to learn how to make websites, we have good news for you: we are holding a one-day workshop for beginners!

It will take place on 7th of March, 2025 at SciLifeLab, Uppsala.

Django Girls is an initiative that is aimed at introducing women who have never coded before to the world of technology and increasing the diversity within the industry.

We do that by organizing workshops and inviting women to join us to learn how to build the internet using HTML, CSS, Python and Django in a safe, friendly, inclusive environment.

Our mission is to bring more women into the tech field by making technology more approachable, simpler and friendlier. We provide tools, resources and a community that makes it easier to learn about technology.

Apply for the workshop!

Join us for the experience of being a real developer for a day! It’s a 8-hour long workshop, where we together are going to build our own blog, using HTML, CSS, Python, Django and then publish it out on the internet 👏🏼

No previous knowledge about coding, Python or Django is required, instead we will all learn together how to code from scratch. We will be lead by Django girls coaches which are experienced in coding, design and project management. So there will be plenty of support there to help guide you the entire day 😊

During the day there will be opportunities to take a break when you feel like it, it’s intense learning how to code. There will be snacks, drinks, coffee available and lunch is provided - All thanks to SciLifeLab 🥰

We have space only for 40 people, so be mindful of that!

Can I join the workshop?

Everyone is welcome to attend, and it’s for free! Only thing to know about is that women and other minorities within the tech industry will get approved for attending first, in case of limited seats.

The aim with the workshop might be different for each of you. Perhaps you that have never coded before but are curious to see if it’s something for you, get to try it out! Or perhaps you have coded a bit before, but is a bit rusty and want to get back in to it. Or you have coded in other languages and wants to get in to the wast world of Python by learning Django.

No matter what your goal is with attending - You are all very welcome to come and code with us during the 7th of March 💻

Applications are now open!

Application process closes on February 21rd and you'll be informed about acceptance or rejection by February 28th (or sooner)!

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!

I am not living in Sweden, can I attend?

Of course! Workshops will be in English, and coaches speak Swedish, Russian, Norwegian and Portuguese so if you have no troubles with speaking and understanding English - you should apply. If you need financial aid to get to Uppsala or you need assistance with booking flights or hotel in Uppsala - let us know. We are willing to help you!

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes. We have no hardware, so we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is also important for us that you will take home everything you’ll write and create during workshops.

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

It would be helpful to have Django installed before workshops, but wouldn't expect you to install anything on your own. We will make sure that one of our coaches will help you out with this task.

Is food provided?

Yes. Thanks to SciLifeLab, snacks and lunch will be served during the workshop.

Be a Mentor!

We would be delighted if you would like to join us as a mentor! Contact us if you're interested ❤️
