Django Girls PDX

Would you like to learn about how to build websites, but don’t know where to start? We’re hosting a free workshop on February 5th and 6th to teach 30 women how to build websites from scratch.

Join us on February 5 and 6 in Portland, OR for a workshop where you'll learn about programming, meet other motivated women, and ultimately build your own website.

This workshop is aimed at total beginners. You don't need to know anything about programming to participate. You just need to bring your own wifi-enabled laptop evening of Friday the 5th and all day Saturday the 6th, and have a sufficient understanding of English to follow our English-language tutorial.

You'll work through a tutorial in small groups of three with a coach, so you'll be able to learn at your own pace.

We are trans-inclusive and encourage applications from all women and non-binary people.

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

No! Workshops are for beginners. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you should still apply!

I am not living in Portland, can I attend?

Of course! At this time we are not able to offer travel scholarships, however.

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes, we expect you to bring your wifi-enabled laptop with you. It is important for us that you be able to take home everything you’ll write and create during workshops.

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

We'll host a free installation party the evening before to help you install what you need.

Is food provided?

Yes. Thanks to our generous sponsors, snacks and lunch will be served during the workshop and the installation party

How do I get to Simple?

You can reach Simple by a Portland Streetcar stop less than a block away the building. Every Streetcar is equipped with bridgeplates in the low floor section of the car, which makes for easy wheelchair boarding.

Is the venue accessible?

Simple has complete step free access. All doorways are wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs. We will have men's and women's bathrooms available that have doorways that can accommodate wheelchairs (toilets and sinks are not lowered, however). We welcome your service animal.

Can I participate if I have low vision or am hard of hearing?

While we do not have any special facilities for attendees who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or have low vision, our coaches will use text-based communication if it will help you.

Will there be a quiet room available?

Yes, there will be a private quiet area available that can also be used as a lactation area.

Can I bring my small children?

Yes! We have free on-site supervised play for a limited number of children. We've hired DivCare PDX, who will have fun activities planned for kids of all ages.

I need an accommodation not listed here.

Please send us an email at [email protected] so we can work out a plan with you!

Why are you doing this?

We want to assure women who are interested in technology that you are not alone! We want to give women a safe space to learn, ask questions, make new friends, and feel supported as they learn something new.

Meet the organizers!

Be a Coach!

We've got all the coaches we need for this workshop. Thanks to everyone who signed up!

Can I be a coach if I am not a woman?

Yes! While the workshop is limited to women participants, we welcome men who support the mission of Django Girls to apply to be a coach.
