Django Girls

If you are a woman* and want to learn how to make websites, we have good news for you: we are holding a one-day workshop for beginners!

Join us on February 17, 2018 at the Agape Red office in downtown Omaha, Nebraska to get a taste of web development with Python and Django.

We believe the IT industry will greatly benefit from bringing more women into technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program and become one of us – #ladydevs!

Workshops are free of charge and we want you here. Join us!

*Django Girls is trans-inclusive and welcomes applications from women, femmes, and non-men.

Applications for participation in our workshop are now closed!

Thank you to everyone who applied! You'll be informed about your participation status by the end of January!

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

Nope! Workshops are meant for beginners; no prior knowledge needed. Even if you're not a total newbie (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes. We don't have any hardware, so we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is also important for us that you take home everything that you write and create during workshops.

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

Nope! We will make sure that one of our coaches will help you out with this task.

Why are you doing this?

We want to give women a safe space to learn, ask questions, make new friends, and feel supported as they learn something new.

Is food provided?

Yes. Thanks to our sponsor Agape Red, lunch and snacks will be served during the workshop.

What's the time commitment?

The workshop will run from approximately 9am - 6pm. Please plan on being available for the whole workshop.

What is the format of the workshop? What if I have trouble keeping up?

You will work in a small group of just 3 attendees. A coach will be assigned to each group, and your coach will work closely with you throughout the day to help with any problems that you may have. You will work at your own pace, assisted by your coach, so you don't need to worry about keeping up with the entire workshop.

Am I too young/old to apply?

No! We have no upper or lower age limit for the workshop. If you are a minor and wish to participate, we ask that your parent or guardian either accompany you or sign a release of liability waiver. We feel that women of any age can be highly motivated to learn and succeed in this field. All applications will be considered according to criteria similar to those described here.

Venue

The Django Girls Omaha workshop will be hosted by Agape Red at 1209 Harney Street Suite 400 in Omaha.

We recommend that you park at the Landmark parking lot right across the street ($7 per day).

  • 12:00 - Lunch + lightning talks
  • 13:00 - Workshop continues
