Django Girls

If you are a woman and want to learn how to make websites, we have good news for you: we are holding a one-day workshop for beginners!

It will take place on 14 April, 2018 at the Center for Digital Scholarship in Hesburgh Library at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, IN.

We believe the IT industry will greatly benefit from bringing more women into technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program and become one of us – women programmers!

Workshops are free of charge and all minorities are encouraged to apply! Don't wait too long: you can apply for the workshop only until March 24, 2018!

Apply for the workshop!

If you are excited to build your first website and have a laptop, you can apply for our event! You don't need to know any technical stuff – our workshop is for people who are new to programming.

As a workshop attendee you will:

  • attend a one-day Django workshop during which you will create your first website
  • be guided through installing all the necessary tools for building your first website
  • be fed by us: during our event, food is provided
  • become a member of a wonderful and supportive tech community

We have space only for 20 participants, so make sure to fill out the application very carefully!

Applications are closed!

The application process has closed.
Applicants will be informed about a decision by April 3, 2018 (or sooner)!
Questions can be directed to [email protected]

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!

I'm not affiliated with the University of Notre Dame, can I still apply?

Of course! All are welcome to apply! The event is open to anyone, high school age and up. Women and minorities who apply will be prioritized in the selection process. This helps us bring more diversity into technology fields and keep the workshop a safe and comfortable place for these individuals to learn!

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes. We have no hardware, so we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is also important for us that you will take home everything you’ll write and create during workshops.

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

We will help you install all the necessary tools on your laptop during an evening event the night before the workshop. This will also give you an opportunity to meet your coaches and network with other women in technology. If you can't attend the Installation night, no worries! We can work with you to make sure you have everything you need to get started on Saturday.

Is food provided?

Yes! Thanks to the Center for Research Computing at the University of Notre Dame, snacks will be served at Installation night and breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided during workshop.

I don't know where I'm going once I get to the University. Will there be directions?

Yes! Navigating campus can be tricky, so when we have a list of accepted participants, we will give you directions and parking information. There will also be signs to direct you once you are inside the library.

Be a Mentor!

We would be delighted if you would like to join us as a mentor! Contact us if you're interested ❤️
