Why is DjangoGirls important?

We believe that improving diversity will greatly benefit STEM industries and we aim to encourage more women and gender minorities to enter into technology by providing an entry point. The future is diverse. DjangoGirls, and other similar initiatives, offer people the opportunity to learn the basics of programming in a safe environment. Who knows, maybe you'll even end up changing careers! Whatever the reason for your interest, we're here to support you and your journey.

Be a Mentor!

We would be delighted if you would like to join us as a mentor! Mentors play an integral role in creating a safe and supportive learning environment for everyone. Mentors can identify as women, man or non-binary but must have a positive attitude. It's a really great way to get more involved in the Django and Python communities as well as help solidify your own knowledge by teaching others.

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

Nope! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!

I live in regional Victoria, can I attend?

Of course! If you need financial support to get to Melbourne or you need assistance with booking the train or hotel in Melbourne - let us know. We are willing to help you!

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes. Ideally, bring a personal laptop so you can effectively install software etc and can continue to use your new skills beyond the workshop on your own device! Where possible, do not bring your work laptop. Often the restrictions around installations are pretty tricky. If you bring your partners or friends laptop, please be sure you have master admin capabilities. If you do not have access to a laptop, please email us so that we can help you access one for the workshop [email protected]

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

It would be helpful to have Django installed before workshops, but we wouldn't expect you to install anything on your own. We will make sure that one of our coaches will help you out with this task during our install party.

Is food provided?

Yes. Thanks to our sponsors, coffee, snacks and lunch will be served at the workshop!

Is the venue accessible?

We will give further accessibility information closer to the date of the workshop. Django Girls always goes above and beyond to be inclusive to the community.

Do DjangoGirls host followup events after the workshops?

Generally, no. However! There is a strong Python/Django community in Melbourne and we encourage you to attend meetup events such as PyLadies, Peer to Peer tech nights & MelbDjango.
