Django Girls Austin

Would you like to learn about how to build websites, but don’t know where to start? We’re hosting a free workshop to teach 40 women how to build websites from scratch.

Join us on September 10 in Austin, Texas for a workshop where you'll learn about programming, meet other motivated women, and ultimately build your own website.

This workshop is aimed at total beginners. You don't need to know anything about programming to participate. You just need to bring your own laptop on Thursday, September 10, and have a sufficient understanding of English to follow our English-language tutorial.

You'll work through a tutorial in small groups of three with a coach, so you'll be able to learn at your own pace.

We are trans-inclusive and encourage applications from all women and non-binary people.

Schedule: Thursday, Sept. 10

Capital Factory, 701 Brazos St., Suites 500 and 1600

8:30 am: Check in, meet your coach, and have some breakfast tacos!*

9:00 am: Workshop starts

10:45 am: Morning break: stretch your legs, get some coffee

12:30 pm: Lunch time! We'll take a full hour to enjoy our salads and sandwiches.

3:15 pm: Afternoon break

5:30 pm: Workshop over

* Coaches: Please arrive at 8:00 am so we can go over some things with you!

Applications Closed

Our workshop is full!

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

No! Workshops are for beginners. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you should still apply!

I do not live in Austin, can I attend?

Of course! At this time we are not able to offer travel scholarships, however.

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes, we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is important for us that you be able to take home everything you’ll write and create during workshops.

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

You'll need to have Python, Django, and a couple other things installed, but we'll help you with that.

Is food provided?

Yes. Thanks to our sponsors, snacks and lunch will be served during the workshop.

How do I get to the venue?

You can reach Capital Factory on the 801 or 803 bus, both of which stop very close to the building. Almost all buses in Austin have a low step entry and are suitable for wheelchairs without requiring advance notification. We recommend the Cap Metro Trip Planner for planning to get there via public transportation.

Is the venue accessible?

Yes! Our venue, Capital Factory, has step-free access, and doorways that can accommodate wheelchairs. Our classroom is accessible via an unlocked elevator. There is one restroom with grab bars, but the restrooms do not have lowered sinks or toilets. The restrooms are not gender neutral, but we encourage you to use the restroom that is right for you.

Can I participate if I have low vision or am hard of hearing?

While we do not have any special facilities for attendees who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or have low vision, our coaches will use text-based communication if it will help you.

Will there be a quiet room available?

Yes, we will have access to a private room that can be used as a quiet room, lactation room, or private place to take medications.

I need an accommodation not listed here.

Please send us an email at [email protected] so we can work out a plan with you!

Do I need to register for DjangoCon to participate as a coach or attendee?

Nope! The conference is totally separate. They are our partner, and are helping us promote and find sponsors, but you do not need to be attending DjangoCon to participate in Django Girls.

Why are you doing this?

Because we want to get more women involved in technology!
