Do you identify as a woman or as non-binary? Want to learn how to make websites? We have good news for you: we are holding a one-day workshop for beginners! 🚀
The workshop will take place 6pm - 8pm on Friday 18 October and 9am - 5:30pm on Saturday 19 October at Torchbox in Bristol. You'll work through a tutorial in small groups with a coach, so you'll be able to learn at your own pace.
Sometimes, it only takes a few like-minded people and a bit of a helping hand to show you how much you're capable of. We want to show you it’s possible, no matter how old you are, what you’ve studied before, how good you are at maths and what others tell you. All you'll need to succeed at the workshop is determination and an interest in coding.
Workshops are free of charge but if you cannot afford to come to Bristol but are very motivated to learn and share your knowledge with others, we may have some funds to help you out with your travel costs and accommodation. Don't wait too long, applications close on September 18th!

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?
No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!
Should I bring my own laptop?
Yes. We have no hardware, so we expect you to bring your computer with you. We also want you to take home everything you’ll write and create during workshops so you can continue playing around and learning afterwards.
What are the criteria for acceptance?
Our goal is to find people who really want to make the most of this opportunity, who are motivated enough to continue learning on their own, who are not afraid of challenges, who could become part of the community, and could encourage others to learn programming.
Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?
It would be helpful to have Django installed before the main workshop on Saturday, but we don't expect you to install anything on your own. The Friday evening of October 18th is for making sure that you're all set up, ready to go, on Saturday.
Is food provided?
Yes. Snacks and lunch will be served during workshops. Yippee!
What is the format of the workshop? What if I have trouble keeping up?
You will work in a small group of just 2 to 3 attendees. A coach will be assigned to each group, and your coach will work closely with you throughout the day to help with any problems that you may have. You will work at your own pace, assisted by your coach, so you don't need to worry about keeping up with the entire workshop.
