Django Girls

If you are a woman and want to learn how to make websites, we have good news for you: we are holding a one-day workshop for beginners!

It will take place on 20th of July 2019 at Arcadis in Birmingham near Snow Hill Station.

We believe the IT industry will greatly benefit from bringing more women into technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program and become one of us – women programmers!

Workshops are free of charge and if you cannot afford coming to Birmingham but are very motivated to learn and then share your knowledge with others, we may have some funds to help you out with your travel costs and accommodation. Don't wait too long: you can apply for the workshop only until 29th of June!

Apply for the workshop!

If you are a woman and have a laptop, you can apply for our event! You don't need to know any technical stuff – our workshop is for people who are new to programming. We are trans-inclusive and welcome applications from all women.

As a workshop attendee you will:

  • attend a one-day Django workshop during which you will create your first website
  • be fed by us: during our event, food is provided

We have space only for 25 people, so make sure to fill out the form very carefully!

Applications are now closed

Application process closesd on June 22nd. You'll be informed about acceptance or rejection by July 5th (or sooner)! For updates, Follow us on Twitter, @djangogirlsbrum.

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!

I am not living in Birmingham, can I attend?

Of course! If you need financial aid to get to Birmingham- let us know. We will try our best to help you!

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes. We have no hardware, so we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is also important for us that you will take home everything you’ll write and create during workshops.

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

It would be helpful to have Django installed before workshops, but wouldn't expect you to install anything on your own.We will make sure that one of our coaches will help you out with this task.

Is food provided?

Yes. Thanks to our sponsors, snacks and lunch will be served during workshops.

Be a Mentor!

Applications for mentors are now closed, please check out the django girls events for more volunteering opportunities!

Our awesome supporters

We wouldn't be able to organise the first Django Girls workshop in Birmingham without the invaluable help from the following people:

Keith Hobden, Jess Freeth, and Dot Turner from Arcadis who instantly supported our initiative and allowed us to use the premises.
"The Jons" (aka Jon Brown and Jon Marshall) for their continuous encouragement.
Fran Buontempo and ACCU for their support, advice and for providing us with reading material.
Aaron Basset, Emanuil Tolev and Alex Russell for putting us in touch with sponsors.
Kirill Lyamin for making sure that we have all the food we need for the event.
Django Girls MK , Val and Eva for giving us the most useful tips to get started, find sponsors and coming all the way from Milton Keynes to help us!
Last but not least, many thanks to Ann Barr for being an amazing role model and providing guidance during our django journey!

From all of us in Django Girls Birmingham, THANK YOU! ❤️🦄🌈💖
