Django Girls Workshop at PyCon Africa 2024

Are you a woman interested in learning how to create websites? Technology is growing rapidly and transforming lives every day. While many of us use it daily, few know how to shift from consuming to creating technology. If you're eager to dive into the world of the internet, we have exciting news for you: We're holding a one-day workshop for beginners!

About the Workshop: This workshop is designed for complete beginners. No prior programming knowledge is required. All you need is a Wi-Fi-enabled laptop and a sufficient understanding of English to follow our English-language tutorial.

• Dates: Tuesday, 24th September 2024 (Installation Party) and Wednesday, 25th September 2024 (Workshop Day)
• Venue: Cedi Conference Center, University of Ghana, Accra

Why Join? The IT industry needs more women, and we want to give you the opportunity to learn how to code and join us as women programmers. Workshops are free of charge, and if you’re motivated to learn but can’t afford to come to Accra, we may have some funds to assist with travel and accommodation.

You'll work in small groups of three with a coach, allowing you to learn at your own pace.

• attend a one-day Django workshop during which you will create your first website
• be fed by us: during our event, food is provided

• 11:00 AM: Introduction to CMD and Python

Wednesday, 25th September 2024: Workshop Day

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!

I am not living in Accra, can I attend?

Yes, you can! We welcome people from all over. Do go ahead to register if you are really interested, then shoot us a mail at [email protected] explaining your circumstances and we will see what we can do.

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes. We have no hardware, so we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is also important for us that you will take home everything you’ll write and create during workshops.

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

It would be helpful to have Django installed before workshops, but wouldn't expect you to install anything on your own.We will make sure that one of our coaches will help you out with this task.

Is Django girls Accra good for a total beginner?

Absolutely! The workshop is designed for beginners who ar interested in technology and want to learn how to code
