Would you like to learn how to build websites, but don’t know where to start? Are you excited about programming but are not sure how to begin your journey?
Data Science at UCSB in collaboration with Female Actuarial Organization (FACTOR), Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE), and inertia7.com are proud to host Django Girls, a one-day workshop aiming to help teach beginners make websites utilizing Python, HTML/CSS and Django!
The event is scheduled to take place on November 18, 2017 at Digital Arts and Humanities Commons. More details will be published closer to the date of the event, so stay tuned!
No programming experience is necessary! All we need from you is access to a laptop and your commitment to attend the evening of Friday, November 17th and all day Saturday, November 18th. We've been working hard to guarantee a 1:3 coach:attendee ratio, so you'll be able to learn at your own pace.
This workshop is free of charge and open to everyone. Don't wait too long; applications are open only until November 10th, 2017 at 11:59PM!
Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?
No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!
I am not a woman. Am I allowed to attend?
Of course - we are open to anyone and everyone who is interested in technology, wants to learn how to code a website, or simply has access to a computer.
Should I bring my own laptop?
We prefer that you bring your own wifi-enabled laptop with you. It is important for us that you be able to take home everything you’ll write and create during the workshop. Please note that having access to campus wifi is preferred.
Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?
Nope! We will be having an installation party the night before, where the coaches can help you out with this task.
Is food provided?
Yes! We will provide breakfast, lunch, and refreshments throughout the day. If you have any specific dietary restrictions, we recommend bringing your own food.
Why are you doing this?
We want to assure women and non-binary folk who are interested in technology that you are not alone! We want to give women a safe space to learn, ask questions, make new friends, and feel supported as they learn something new.
