If you are a woman and you want to learn how to code, we have good news for you! We are holding a one-day workshop for beginners!
It will take place on 29th September 2017 in Nairobi, Kenya! It will be held at PyConKE, an annual gathering for the community in Kenya that uses and develops the open-source Python programming language. The venue will be USIU Africa, off Thika Road.
We believe that the IT industry will greatly benefit from bringing more women into technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program and become one of us - female programmers!
Our workshop is free of charge, and you don't need to have any technical knowledge. All you need is a passion for tech, a laptop, and a good amount of curiosity. If you know a little about HTML and CSS, that's okay too! :)
Applications are now closed. They were open from 4th September to 12th September 2017.
As a workshop attendee you will:
We have space only for 30 people, so make sure to fill the form very carefully! In the meantime, follow us on Instagram and Twitter!
I don't live in Nairobi. Can I attend?
Of course! Every woman is welcome to apply to the workshop! Unfortunately we cannot guarantee financial assistance to help with your transport and accommodation. However, don't hesitate to let us know your situation and we'll do our best to help! :)
Should I bring my own laptop?
Yes. We have no hardware, so we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is also important to us that you will take home everything you’ll write and create during workshop.
Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?
No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about programming. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply! This workshop is not for you if you have advanced programming skills, for example if you have been working as a programmer or if you have built websites or software applications before.
Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?
It would be helpful to have Django installed before the workshop, but we wouldn't expect you to install anything on your own. We will make sure that one of our coaches will help you out with this task during the Installation Party on the evening of 28th September 2017. (See the schedule for more information.)
Will I need to buy PyConKE tickets?
No! All Django Girls participants will have complimentary tickets to PyConKE.
These are the awesome people who'll be coaching at Django Girls Nairobi!
We'd like to thank the following groups and organisations for sponsoring and supporting this year's Django Girls Nairobi!
