Django Girls

Would you like to learn about how to build websites, but don’t know where to start? Learning how to code can seem like an impossible task so we’ve decided to put on a workshop to show programming beginners how it can be done and get them excited about the world of technology.

Join us on Saturday 21st of September 2024 for a free one-day workshop in Durham, where we’ll be giving attendees the chance to learn about programming and to ultimately build their own website. The workshop takes place as part of day one of DjangoCon US 2024, a big conference for programmers which gathers a lot of talented people from all over the world.

Django Girls is a crash course that is aimed at total beginners. You don’t need to know anything about programming, we just expect you to bring your own laptop, to be able to commit to the all-day workshop on Saturday 21st of September 2024 and to have a sufficient understanding of English so you’re able to follow our English tutorial. You will work through the tutorial in a small group of three attendees and one coach so you’ll be able to do it at your own pace. If you’d like to join us, please apply below.

The workshop is free of charge and is part of DjangoCon US 2024

Apply for the workshop!

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!

I am not living in Durham, can I attend?

Of course! If you can get yourself to Durham, you should apply.

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes. We will not have computers for you to borrow, so we expect you to bring your own with you. It is also important for us that you will take home everything you’ll write and create during workshops.

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

It would be helpful to have Django installed before workshops, but wouldn't expect you to install anything on your own. The day prior to our workshop, we will have a virtual installation party

Is Django Girls good for a total beginner?

Absolutely! Our workshop is geared to absolute beginners, and will show you step by step how to write your first web application. We will have mentors throughout the workshop available to answer any questions or explain concepts to you.

Is food provided?

Yes. Thanks to our sponsors, snacks and lunch will be served during the workshop.

Do I need a ticket for DjangoCon US 2024 to attend this DjangoGirls workshop?

Nope! This is an event affiliated with the conference but is absolutely free of charge and does not require tickets. Just apply through the form on our site!

Be a Mentor!

We would be delighted if you would like to join us as a coach!
