This event is specifically targeted at helping improve gender diversity in tech. So while a lot of the language focuses on women, we welcome applications from anyone with a marginalised experience of gender. This includes all women (trans and cis), all non-binary people, and trans men. As long as you're a beginner and interested in learning how to build a website, we have the half-day workshop for you!
The event will take place on Friday 4th of August, 2023 at ANU in Canberra.
We believe the IT industry will greatly benefit from bringing a more diverse range of people into technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program and become one of us – programmers!
Workshops are free of charge. Don't wait too long: you can apply for the workshop only until July 14th!
If you have access to a laptop and an interest in learning something new, you can apply for our event! You don't need to know any technical stuff – our workshop is for people who are new to programming.
As a workshop attendee you will:
We have space only a limited number of people, so make sure to fill out the form very carefully!
What's the schedule for the event?
[Optional] Thursday August 3rd
Friday August 4th
Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?
No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you can still apply!
I don't live in Canberra, can I attend?
Of course! If you can make it to the venue the day you're more than welcome to apply!
Should I bring my own laptop?
Yes. We have no hardware, so we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is also important to us that you'll be able to take home everything you write and create during the workshop.
Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?
Not necessarily, though it would make it easier. You will have the option to complete the workshop using either software installed on your computer or through a cloud platform. You can indicate your preference in the application form. If you choose to use a local installation it would be helpful to have Django installed before the workshops, but we wouldn't expect you to install anything on your own. We will make sure that one of our coaches helps you out with this task.
Is food provided?
Yes. Snacks and lunch will be served during the workshop.
We couldn't be here without the support from amazing people and organizations who donated money, knowledge and time to help us make this a reality. If you want to contribute and support our goal, please get in touch at canberra@djangogirls.org
