Django Girls

Would you like to learn about how to build websites, but don’t know where to start? We’re hosting a free workshop to teach 30 women how to build websites from scratch.

Join us on 25th & 26th of September at ThoughtWorks Atlanta, where you'll learn about programming, meet other motivated women, and ultimately build your own website.

We believe that IT industry will greatly benefit from bringing more women into technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program and become one of us!

This workshop is aimed at total beginners. You don't need to know anything about programming to participate. You just need to bring your own laptop on Friday, September 25, and have a sufficient understanding of English to follow our English-language tutorial.

Workshops are free of charge and women from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. You'll work through a tutorial in small groups of three with a coach, so you'll be able to learn at your own pace.

We are trans-inclusive and encourage applications from all women.

Details for applicants

If you identify as a woman, know English, and have a laptop, you can apply for the workshop! You don’t need any prior technical knowledge. This class is for absolute beginners.

As a workshop attendee you will:

  • attend a one-day Django workshop (with installfest the night before) during which you will create your first website
  • meet people from the industry and learn more about programming
  • be fed by us - all meals provided during the workshop

We have space only for 30 people, so get your application in soon! Follow us at @djangogirlsATL for updates.

Applications are closed.

Thanks for taking the time to apply to Django Girls ATL! You'll be hearing back from us soon.

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

No! Workshops are for beginners. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you can still apply!

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes, we expect you to bring a computer with you. We will not be able to provide hardware. It is important for us that you be able to take home everything you’ll write and create during workshops.

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

You'll need to have Python, Django, and a couple other things installed, but we'll help you with that.

Can I participate if I have low vision or am hard of hearing?

While we do not have any special facilities for attendees who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or have low vision, our coaches will use text-based communication if it will help you.

Is food provided?

Yes. Thanks to our generous sponsors - Kabbage, Inc., DreamHost, MailChimp, and our host ThoughtWorks - breakfast, lunch, coffee, and snacks will be served during the workshop. Vegan and gluten-free diets will be happily accommodated.

Be a Coach!

We would be delighted if you would like to join us as a coach! Coaches work in small groups with attendees, providing mentorship and answering questions. While Python experience is required, you do not have to be a Django expert to be a coach. Questions? Want to help? Please email us at [email protected].

We'll get back to you promptly.
