Django Girls

Great news for women who want to learn to build websites: Factory Two is holding a 3-day programming workshop for beginners! Saturday, July 21st is the only mandatory day, being the workshop itself, with an optional 3-hour software installation party Friday evening and an optional wrap-up day on Sunday for those who would like extra time with mentors.

Django Girls coding workshop takes place Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Factory Two in Flint. Optional software installation party Friday, July 20 and optional wrap-up day Sunday, July 22.

We believe the world will benefit from expanding the IT industry to include more women, particularly women of color, and other marginalized identities. Factory Two wants to give you an opportunity to learn how to program and become one of us - women programmers!

Workshops are free of charge. If you can't afford to travel to Flint but are very motivated to learn and then share your knowledge with others, please contact us about available funds to assist with travel and accommodation costs. Don't wait too long: you can only apply for the workshop until Monday, July 9th!

If you're a woman, know English, and have a laptop, you can apply for this event! You don't need to know any technical stuff – our workshop is for people who are new to programming.

As a workshop attendee you will:

  • attend a three-day Django Girls workshop during which you will create your first website
  • be fed by us: meals are provided!

The deadline to submit applications is July 9th. Attendees will be notified of acceptance by no later than July 13th!

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

Nope! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about coding or programming. However, don't be afraid to apply if you already have a bit of coding knowledge!

I am not living in Flint, MI. Can I attend?

Of course! Everyone is welcome to come. This workshop will be taught in English. If you need accomodations such as translators, sign language interpreters, or travel assistance, send us an email and we'll see what we can do!

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes please! We do have a limited supply of laptops available if you need them - please let us know as early as possible if this is the case!

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

There will be a 3 hour software installation on Friday, July 20th. This is not mandatory but we do ask that you have the software downloaded before the workshop.

Is food provided?

Yes.
