About Django Girls Mombasa 2026

Django Girls Mombasa is a free one-day workshop designed to introduce women to programming in a supportive and beginner-friendly environment.

If you are curious about technology and ready to explore coding, this workshop is for you.

    We start with introductions and light refreshments.

    You will work in small groups with a coach and follow the Django Girls Tutorial using Python, Django, HTML, and CSS.

    A short inspirational tech talk during lunch.

    Continue building your web application with guidance.

    We celebrate your first completed web project.

Our Mission

We aim to empower women in Mombasa by increasing access to technology skills and building confidence in programming.

Participants (30 spots available)

We are looking for 30 motivated women who are curious about technology and ready to take their first steps into programming. No previous experience is required.

You should be available on 24th April 2026 and willing to actively participate throughout the day.

Coaches

We are looking for developers who are passionate about sharing knowledge and empowering women in tech.

As a coach, you will guide a small group of participants (2–3 people) through the Django Girls tutorial. You do not need to be a senior developer  patience, encouragement, and willingness to support beginners are key.

Volunteers help with logistics, registration, photography, coordination, and general event support.

FAQ

Is the workshop suitable for total beginners? Absolutely!

Yes. This event is specifically designed for complete beginners. No prior programming experience is required. We will guide you step by step through the Django Girls Tutorial, and coaches will support you throughout the day.


Do I need to bring a laptop? Yes.

Participants are required to bring their own laptop. If you do not have access to one, please indicate this clearly in your application form so we can see how to assist in exceptional cases.


Do you provide travel or accommodation support? No.

Unfortunately, we do not cover transport, accommodation, or visa expenses. Participants are responsible for arranging their own travel to the venue in Mombasa.

Can I attend online?

No. Django Girls Mombasa is an in-person event. The exact venue will be communicated to selected participants. If you are unable to attend physically, you can still follow the official Django Girls Tutorial on your own.


Do I need to install anything beforehand?

Yes. Selected participants will receive installation instructions before the event. Coaches may also organize a pre-event setup session to ensure everyone is ready. Support will be available during the workshop if needed.


Will food be provided?

Yes. Thanks to our partners and sponsors, snacks and lunch will be provided during the workshop.

What if I already know some programming?

You are welcome to apply. However, priority will be given to beginners who have not yet had the opportunity to attend similar workshops.


What technologies will we use?

During the workshop, you will build your first web application using Python, Django, HTML, and CSS. We will follow the official Django Girls open-source tutorial.


What is Django Girls?

Django Girls is a global non-profit initiative that organizes free programming workshops for women, trans, and non-binary people worldwide. Events are organized by volunteers. The program is open-source and available on GitHub: github.com/DjangoGirls .
